I did not render this model, I just resize, soften and simplified it Windows 3D Builder to share the same scale as other objects. The original file is from the collection of asteroid radar detection of the PDS site.

The file's names explained: name_1_x_10_y.stl is 1 : x* 10^^y. So _1_6_10_7 is 1:600000000 or one in 60 million.

4179 Toutatis

Toutatis is a NEA that can make occasionally close encounters with Earth, making it a Potentially Hazardous Object (PHO). With 5 km long, it is small for a regular asteroid, but it is quite big considering the damage it can cause if strikes our planet. Toutatis has a elongated orbit, comparable to that of short period comets. It is thought that several NEAs are comets that have evaporated all their volatiles (water), leaving an inert asteroid with an eccentric orbit.

  • Type: Near Earth asteroid. Potentially hazardous asteroid.
  • Orbit: Sun. Apollo and Alinda group.
  • Orbital period: 4.03 yr.
  • Rotational period: 176 h.
  • Composition: Silicate rock. S-type.
  • Density: 2.1 g/cm3.
  • Dimensions: 4.75 km × 2.4 km × 1.95 km
  • Model scale: 1:4x104 (11cm) 1:8x104 (5cm)
