The Logitech F line are great controllers. But their arrow pads kinda suck for the type of precise inputs that many platformers require. I found it would often engage the surrounding directions when pressing on a given direction key.

Perhaps that just means my fingers are too clumpy. Regardless, I fixed it with these discrete directions keys instead of the one giant button the stock ones have.

I designed this print so you don't need to permanently modify the controller in any way whatsoever. If you don't enjoy it, you can just swap in the stock button again

Printing

  • Recommended to print on the finest line-width your printer supports
  • It's a very small and fast print anyways, and the increased quality is definitely noticeable
  • Print it so the user-facing parts are at the bottom
  • The thinnest parts of the cover STL might not get printed - it still works perfectly fine without them

Post-Printing

If you open up the controller a bunch of buttons will fall out, so make sure you've got enough desk surface area to catch all of them. The buttons are very easy to place back into their correct spot and it's sort of a fun puzzle. There's very little risk of breaking anything as long as you maintain a minimum of carefulness.

  • No sanding, etc. is required
  • Screw open the Logitech controller
  • Remove the directional buttons
  • Put the buttons themselves in the empty slots
  • Place the cover over the button
  • Via the back plate you can use a set screw to keep everything in place - look for the small hole in the center of the cover (or some hotglue whatever)

Possible improvements you can do

  • Rounded edges for the buttons (although I personally like how they have 90 degree angles)

Note on F510/F710

I haven't tested this design on those models. But looking at pictures of how they are put together it should work just as well. Let me know if it doesn't and if so I'll untag those models.
