The clips and receiver models were created by RobertCowanDIY as part of his Magnetic Screwdriver Holder for Pegboards project. I thought this was a pretty clever and clean way to mount something to a peg board. It inspired me to do something about the mess of wire spools I have kicking around.
I wanted something clean, inexpensive and customizable for various width spools. Needs to be relatively easy to take spools on an off.
This wire spool holder design uses standard ½ inch EMT (Electrical Conduit) as the spool holder and ¼ inch round bar stock (mild or stainless steel recommended) as the rods for the wire guides.
Print 1 each Right and Left brackets. Reorient the brackets so the large flat face is down.
Print 1 Wire Guide for every spool you want to manage. I orient the guides on their edge, just as they import. You will probably want to use a smooth build plate for a little bit extra adhesion.
Print 2 Mounting Clips for each set of brackets.
Take the 2 of the Mounting Clips and 4 of the 6mm plastic automotive clips and mount them to the peg board. The release tabs on the Mounting Clips should face inward.
While you're figuring out the spacing, I recommend unscrewing the pins in the automotive clips so you can easily move them around the peg board.
Once you're happy with the spacing, take the Right and Left brackets and slide them over the mounting clips.
The spaces for the EMT and round stock are ½ inch less than the total width of the brackets. If your brackets are 10" from outer edge to outer edge, then cut the rods to 9.5".
Just lean the brackets to the side a bit and side wire guide rods (¼" round stock) into place.
For static installs, the EMT conduit can just rest on the brackets. If you need a stronger hold for your spools you can snap the EMT deeper into the brackets and it will be a bit harder to remove the spools.
The author remixed this model.
This project utilizes the clip and receiver RobertCowanDIY created for his Screwdriver Holder and turns them into a customizable wire spool holder.
