Overview

I created this parametric 3d model so you can print a dust cover for your phone binoculars or spotting scope adapter.  The design is specific to these customizable models.  This cover helps keep dust off of your bino/scope lens when your phone is not on the adapter.

Though other materials may work, I printed mine using 98A TPU with zero tolerance for a snug, secure fit.

You can attach the dust cover to your scope or binos using a thin cord lanyard so you don't lose it when you take it off the adapter.  Due to the snug fit, hold the adapter when removing the dust cover so you don't put undue stress on the binos/scope eyecup.

I hope you get a lot of use out of your adapter!

-Michelle

Print Material and Settings (tested on Prusa i3MK3S):

  • Material:  TPU  (I used 98A)
  • Nozzle Diameter:  0.4mm
  • Layer Height:  0.20mm Quality
  • Infill:  15%
  • No support works for me, but you may want to add some under the handle if your printer has trouble bridging.
  • Print with the dust cover handle pointing up and the flat side on the printer plate.

Optional - I've only tested with TPU 98A but other materials may work with an adjustment to the tolerance, as needed.

Customizing Your Dust Cover

If you're printing this model, you likely have already customized your phone adapter using my binoculars or spotting scope models.  The user parameters are the exact same as in those files so just copy the relevant ones over.

The parameters you need to change are in the Favorites list in the Parameters table in Autodesk Fusion.  If you need a refresher on the parameters, please see the parameter documentation in the adapter models.   The only parameter new to this model is Tolerance.  I set Tolerance to zero - you can add to this if needed to get your cover to fit in the adapter camera plate cutout.

To view and edit the parameters:

  1. Open the AdapterDustCover_v1.00.f3d file in Autodesk Fusion (free for personal use.)
  2. Navigate to “MODIFY” → “Change Parameters”
  3. Change the parameters in the Favorites list to match the parameters values you used for your binos or spotting scope adapter.  Tip:  Click the header of the “Name” column to sort the parameters alphabetically.
  4. You may get some warnings/errors about fillets as you enter your values but these should sort out once all your parameters are updated.
  5. If you need further customization, feel free to explore the other User Parameters, but do so at your own risk.  If you're a Fusion wiz, have at it.  :)

Tip:  Before committing to an entire print, you can optionally cancel your print after the first handful of layers are printed to check the fit on the adapter.
