Using a Mathematical Balance

  • The balance has rods on both sides. Rings are placed on these rods to represent numbers.

  • In this case, the balance will be level because the ring on the 5-rod equals the total of the rings on the 2-rod and the 3-rod. In other words, 5 = 2 + 3.
