Duplo Monster Truck Base

This model is for a Duplo Compatible 4x4 monster truck.  The truck hitch is compatible with Duplo car, truck, and trailer products. I made the truck body and wheels/rims out of PLA. To keep the axles and trailer hitch strong, I used the 0.2mm Strength profile (5 or 6 wall loops, 25% infill, 5 top layers, and 3 bottom layers). You will need to print with Supports enabled. I've added features to the design that greatly reduces the amount of support material required and increases bed adhesion.

The tires can be made squishy using TPU or can be made solid using a non-TPU type filament such as PLA. TPU tires are the better way to go. Select the proper wheel (rim) for the type of filament used. 

For tires made from TPU, I used the following printer settings:  2 wall loops. 10% infill, 3 top layers and 3 bottom layers. Also, print without supports or brim.  These settings allow the tires to be squishy. I've heard it prints well with 5% or 0% infill but have yet to try it myself. Reducing would make the tires more squishy. 2 top and bottom layers might also do the same. If you try some other parameters, please pass the info along with a comment on how it turned out. More wall loops or a higher infill setting might improve print quality but will make the tires more rigid. 

For tires made of PLA or other non-TPU filament the printer settings are not critical. The standard 0.2mm profile should suffice. These tires should be glued to the proper wheels/rims using CA glue.

There is a right and left tire design. Two separate tire designs allow for the wheel treads to be in the same orientation.  The side of the tire that is smooth (print table side of tire) goes toward the truck body. For TPU tires, insert the smooth side of the tire onto the narrow side of the wheel.  Use the opposite side for solid tires. The assembled wheel and tire simply push onto the truck body's axles.

11/18/2024: Note: Bambu's new TPU for AMS is significantly stiffer. and does not make the tires squishy. If using, they will not slip onto the rims designated for TPU tires and you must use the non-TPU wheel/rim.

2/18/2025: I added a Truck Body model that adds support for the tow post.  I still recommend 5 wall loops as this adds significant strength to the hitch and 12 Duplo nipples.
