As much as I enjoy the original art-piece, I found it lacking something. Both a personal touch and some color. I found that origami sheets with various prints worked amazingly, but some of the lines on the plate are so thin, it was hard to cut the sheets into sections that fit perfectly. So I decided to split the model into individual pieces, that can be used as stencils to cut out sections. The plate has been split into four major pieces. With each piece being more manageable than the whole plate, it's easy to cut the paper to fill only portions of each piece. This allows for a myriad of combinations without turning it into a puzzle.
The make I posted as a cover photo, is an example of what can be done. That exact art piece is attached to an LED ‘fluorescent’ fixture in my laundry-room.
