Disclaimer: I can not be held liable for pinched cables so size your grommets appropriately.  You have been cautioned.

Background

I had a need to provide cable pass through (particularly HDMI) because I needed to home run the cable through my walls/ceiling.  Back to back HDMI cables through a HDMI jack was undesirable because said cables can have long connectors (especially Active HDMI cables).  Even with my angled keystone jack design the connector stuck out too far.

Grommet Features

  • Tool less snap in (some push force required)
  • Reversible design depending on desired aesthetic in the front (wide or tall)
  • Three different hole sizes
    • Small: .30in diameter
    • Medium: .40in diameter
    • Large: .50in diameter

The snap in grommets are intentionally a tight fit so they do not fall out.  To snap in insert them on a slant (45 degrees or so) to form a teepee.  Then, push down until they are flush with the wall plate which will require some force (see pictures)

To remove, exert some push force on the side with the horizontal wings (wide side, not tall side) with both thumbs and they will pop out.  The objects are solid enough where no breakage on the wings should occur.

Even though the grommets are labeled left and right they are interchangeable (more for labeling).

Printing

  • Printer: Prusa MK4 with MMU3 (Single Material utilized)
  • Material: Generic PETG+ (Inland from Microcenter)
  • Supports: Yes, but may be able to get away without them
  • All other settings default
  • Orientation: If printed horizontally flat supports are required because the overhang on the wings is too great.  If printed vertical with arch pointing downward the arch can be more difficult to print on the larger diameter options.

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

Remix of my original angled wall plates (same wall plate design).  These models provide the ability to have cable passthrough featuring snap in grommets.  There are quite a number of different options that can be made based on the desired passthrough holes so I am only listing the most common ones.  CAD files are provided for desired modification.
