This super-cute mushroom doubles as a fun fidget spinner.  Holding the mushroom by the stem and then quickly spinning the cap with the thumb and forefinger of the opposite hand produces a smooth spin that can provide a fun, satisfying sensory experience.  Experiment to find the positions and methods that result in the smoothest and longest-lasting spins.

All credit for the cuteness and design of the mushroom model goes to @neobobkrause (https://www.printables.com/model/604642-mushroom).  He produced and shared this awesome little mushroom design.  I made modifications to the stem and inner cap of his design to allow the cap to snap onto the stem and to allow it to be retained while being spun.  If the mushroom spinner gives you some happiness, please give us both a like :).

Suggested Slicer Settings:

  • Layer height: 0.2mm
  • Brim: yes for stem and cap_outer; optional for cap_spots (inner cap)
  • Perimeters: 2 or 3
  • Top/bottom layers: 3 layers minimum (5 recommended for cap_outer top layers)
  • Infill: 15% (or more) rectilinear
  • Supports: Only cap_outer requires supports

Assembly Instructions:

  1. Print the stem model (e.g. white).
  2. Print the cap_spots model in the desired mushroom cap spot color (e.g. white).
  3. Print the cap_outer model in the desired primary cap color (e.g. red).
  4. Remove the brim from stem and cap_outer (and cap_spots if brim used).
  5. Firmly push cap_spots onto stem until it snaps into place.  Cap_spots should freely spin on stem after assembly.
  6. Push cap_outer onto cap_spots to complete the assembly. (Optionally, a bit of superglue can be used to permanently attach cap_outer to cap_spots. Be careful not to get any glue between stem and cap_spots – it should be able to freely spin!)

Model origin

The author remixed this model.

Differences of the remix compared to the original

I modified the cap and stem models to allow them to be snapped together in a manner that allows the cap to be firmly retained and spun as a fidget toy.
