Heat insert Press

Design by R_vdk

Application / Functions

I know there are a lot of good and decent heat insert presses around (and some really interesting and cheap kits), but I wanted to create one without ordering other stuff, instead re-using parts and material I already have in stock. By no means is this the best or only version you can use. It is however very user-friendly and works with most universal Soldering irons.

What do you need?

To print a complete set, you need the following:

  • PETG +250g
  • Axle/steel rod 2x100mm
  • M3x18mm Hex socket / Hex button bolt (or longer) (x4)
  • M3x10mm / 12mm Hex socket / Hex button bolt (x2)
  • M3 heat insert (x6)
  • M3 washers (x4)
  • M6x20mm button bolt (x4)
  • M6 nut (x4)
  • M6 washers (x4)
  • Bearings type SK608Z (4x)
  • Recoiler (by choice) → Type used added below
  • Foam anti-slip feet (optional)

How to

  • Firstly assemble the carriage using the M3 mounting material. For some parts, M3 heat inserts are required. Please ensure a good angle and fit, as this influences the quality of usage when the press is finished. Use enough force to tightly fit everything without forcing and breaking the prints.
  • Assemble the base using the M6 mounting material. Insert the M6 nuts from the back of the pillar and run the bolts through the bottom of the base.
  • Insert the carriage into the base - BEFORE installing the recoiler carriage.
  • Mount the recoiler carriage → If you use a different kind of recoiling device, feel free to ask me for a custom holder, which I will gladly provide in STL or 3MF-format
  • Insert the recoiler and connect the wire to the carriage. Some creativity goes a long way here.
  • Insert your soldering iron - DISCLAIMER - Don't leave a warm soldering iron too long in the press. The heat of the iron will creap upwards and completely warp / melt your mounting brackets. For this reason, the quick-release was added. Insert and pull out your iron in a matter of seconds.
  • Put on some nice anti-slip feet.
