I have been running my Robo3D R1+ somewhat reliably through Octo4A, an Android Port of Octoprint. I use an older secondhand LG-G6 Phone as the server device, and wanted a more permanent way to mount the device to the printer, while running the TouchUI plugin of Octoprint. Until now, I have either been mounting the phone to the top face of the printer with a GoPro suction mount and Phone Clamp, but am worried that this will eventually give away resulting in the phone crashing into the glass build plate and ruining a print, and printer.
I decided to sketch-up a simple mount which relies on the same mounting which the stock Spool Mount uses, which slides directly onto the front side of the printer case. After seeing some inspiration from fellow creators for tool holders and the like
(https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1044688),
I made a phone holder “case” which slides into the mount with a simple notch. This allows me to plug the phone in, while having it mounted to the front of the case. The only downside as of right now is that I now cannot use the phone camera as a Webcam to observe the print status, although I plan to just use an USB Webcam as a replacement.
The model comes in 2 pieces which allows the mount to slide onto the printer case without interference from the long phone holder. This will also allow the removal of the phone holder, so I can attach other such pieces onto the mount, if I get around to modeling such items.
The Phone Holder piece is designed for an LG-G6 which has an approximate dimension of H=149mm, W=72mm, D=8mm; *** although the actual holder has some leeway for the phone dimensions due to tolerance***. Honestly, any phone with similar dimensions should fit fine on the holder, even if such phones are taller.
The mount has a 30mm wide notch with a z-depth of 35mm, and accommodates I believe a slot in piece of 2.5-3.0mm thick.
I know the Robo3D R1/R1+ are such old printers that have limited support nowadays, but the printer still is chugging along with accurate precision, when its working…, so feel free or not to design additional accessories for such mount.
