This is a sword from a book my 9 year old son is trying to write called “The Flame of Blame.” He says it's a sequel to Harry Potter and is about the children of Lord Voldemort. I found the drawing on our kitchen table and decided to design and print it for him as a birthday gift. I figured I might as well upload it.
I printed it at 0.16 mm with a 0.4 mm Nozzle in PLA
Colors
I'd print the flames slow as they are detailed and to prevent stringing. The top flame is a bit big to fit on the bottom flame so you'll have to cut off some of the tip of the bottom flame to get the top part to rest on the bottom. Print both upright and with supports (no other parts should need supports except the very bottom of the blade curve). Use little infill to maximize light penetration and make cutting off the tip easier. I used 0% and vase mode may also work.
Assembly
Glue the each top flame to the each bottom flame after trimming the bottom flame tip and rotating them to find the right orientation. Glue the flames to the tip of the blade so they are pointed straight up. Glue the blade shaft into the blade. Then glue the shaft, hilt guard and hilt handle together. The guard should be sandwiched between the shaft and handle.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
