UPDATED “EXAMPLE TRAY” BODY TO CORRECT THE TYPO IN “EXAMPLE”

Are you like me and are required to teach people around you 3d printing? Whether they are clients, friends, family or someone else, I have had to quickly educate hundreds of people about how 3d printing works and what some of the main benefits are.

This is challenging for some, so I designed this visualization aid. It has proven so helpful for me when I go to a business and help them understand the basic concepts of 3d printing.

With this, you can accurately teach anyone:

  • What the layer heights refer to and how they affect the final parts.
  • What the walls/perimeters are and how they affect the final parts
  • What the infill is, and what/why there are different infill types.

These are just some examples, but it gets the point across to most people. After 15 minutes with this Example Tray, anyone can have a fundamental understanding of how and why 3d printing works.

*All boxes come labeled so they don't get mixed when being handled*

To Print:

The Example tray should be printed with standard settings. Ensure your printer has been calibrated for dimensional accuracy beforehand. These boxes and the tray they go in have a snug tolerance to prevent unwanted spilling of the examples.

  • Only the “Layer Height Examples” should have top layers.
  • "Layer Height Example" models should have a denser infill to account for thinner top layers
  • On the thinner layered "Layer Height Examples" (0.05, 0.10, 0.15mm), consider increasing the number of top layers. I used 20 top layers on the 0.05 model
  • All other example models should be printed with 0 top layers, bottom layers are optional
  • I chose these infill types as they're the most common and easy to understand
  • All models and tray can be printed at a standard 0.2mm layer height.

These all can be printed in any material.
