If you have a ceiling fan and you replaced the lightbulbs in it with Hue lightbulbs, then you have the following problems:

  • You have a light dimmer which you do not need anymore
  • A fan “dimmer” switch which you do need
  • A normal switch
  • AND a Hue remote - which needs a new home - and it is always where you do not need it.
  • So - you could glue the Hue box beside the switch - but it is differently shaped and the result looks horrible.
  • If you glue something to the wall and you change your mind later on - then you have left overs at your wall and it needs a paint job.
  • Even worse - you do also not want to add a x3 box into the wall to have space to put a standard frame in as it needs a reconstruction and is hardly reversible later on if you ever decide to do so.

Here is the solution!

  1. You print this 3x electrical wallplate (PLA, standard settings) which can hold the remote.
  2. You add 2 magnets (6mm x 2mm) to the wallplate from the back. Make sure you get the polarity right!
  3. You switch the old 2x wallplate against this newly printed 3x wallplate.
  4. You print the “slider blocker” (PLA, standing with a brim), drag the light all the way to the top and then insert the blocker into the silder rail.

=> Done!

And here comes the best:

If you decide you do want to go back to your old bulbs…

  1. Use a small screwdriver and use the pre-designed screwdriver opening in the blocker piece (right side) to pull it out.
  2. Swap the 3x frame with the old 2x frame.

=> Done! And it looks exactly as before, no holes, no dirty wall, all nice and tidy!

Enjoy!
