If you have a ceiling fan and you replaced the lightbulbs in it with Hue lightbulbs, then you have the following problems:
- You have a light dimmer which you do not need anymore
- A fan “dimmer” switch which you do need
- A normal switch
- AND a Hue remote - which needs a new home - and it is always where you do not need it.
- So - you could glue the Hue box beside the switch - but it is differently shaped and the result looks horrible.
- If you glue something to the wall and you change your mind later on - then you have left overs at your wall and it needs a paint job.
- Even worse - you do also not want to add a x3 box into the wall to have space to put a standard frame in as it needs a reconstruction and is hardly reversible later on if you ever decide to do so.
Here is the solution!
- You print this 3x electrical wallplate (PLA, standard settings) which can hold the remote.
- You add 2 magnets (6mm x 2mm) to the wallplate from the back. Make sure you get the polarity right!
- You switch the old 2x wallplate against this newly printed 3x wallplate.
- You print the “slider blocker” (PLA, standing with a brim), drag the light all the way to the top and then insert the blocker into the silder rail.
=> Done!
And here comes the best:
If you decide you do want to go back to your old bulbs…
- Use a small screwdriver and use the pre-designed screwdriver opening in the blocker piece (right side) to pull it out.
- Swap the 3x frame with the old 2x frame.
=> Done! And it looks exactly as before, no holes, no dirty wall, all nice and tidy!
Enjoy!
