One of my HomePod minis sits atop a cube storage shelf in what has been dubbed my “nerd corner”. On top of this particular shelf are quite a ridiculous number of models of Studio Gibli's Totoro; plushies, miniatures, and related models. It was pointed out that the HomePod mini in question happened to be very nearly the correct color and shape for a Totoro. And that all that was missing were some ears.
Upon looking around the internet, I could not find precisely what I was looking for. There were models, holders, and the like. But no ears formatted to sit on top of a HomePod mini.
So I combined the best 3D ears I could find with a small extruded ring to sit just inside of the HomePod mini's fabric surface.
The print was far simpler than I expected. With the build in two pieces, no supports are needed. I used .15mm detail with 20% infill in a grey marble filament, glued the ears to the adapter, and set it on the speaker. The color match is everything I could have hoped for!
The author remixed this model.
I chopped off the model just below the ears, expanded the brim of the head, and added an adapter for resting on the HomePod mini
