Please also check my new Gridfinity Case using the same locking mechanism:

https://www.printables.com/model/1014200-gridfinity-stackable-case-magnetic-locking-mechani

Update: Now there are 3 versions for 3 types of magnets:

  • 5x2mm
  • 6x2mm
  • 6x3mm

CASE Details:

  • This storage case can be used as a pencil case or for anything else you like.
  • Inside space size: 174.8mm x 59mm x 36mm (LxWxh)
  • Strong build with sturdy print in place hinge. No hardware needed for the hinge.
  • The case has a two part lid and each one can be opened separately.
  • Magnetic lock mechanism on each lid. No springs needed, only magnets. Please check the gif animation and or images for details.
  • All you need to build this are 8 magnets of 5x2mm (4 are mandatory and 4 optional) and some glue.
  • Added another folder with the case and parts adapted for 6x2mm magnets. (the ones used in Gridfinity)
  • Added another folder with the case and parts adapted for 6x3mm magnets.

You can use PLA Glow filament for the Nuclear sign (like i did it), to have it glow in the dark. 👌

The cases presented into the photo's are printed with these settings:

  • 0.2mm layer height
  • 3 walls
  • 20% infill (adaptive cubic)
  • I used 5 bottom layers for the top case part.
  • If you have usually issues with lifting corners on big objects, I would add brim to the case. (On Bambu A1mini i had this issue, but on X1C it worked fine without brim)

For assembly, you need to pay attention to the magnets orientation, please don't rush and follow the images for assembly.
For the lock mechanism, the magnets should reject each other.
Everything should fit easily.

Locking mechanism should work easily (there are tolerances build in) but if it's not easily locking automatically, please move manually the pin in both directions for some time, to smooth it out.
