About two years ago, I had the barrel connector fail on my Monoprice Select Mini V2. Opened it and soldered it back on properly. Then I thought I should make a housing to protect it a bit better and prevent any more failure. The fit is tight around the wire and connector, so it provides a good stress relief on the solder joints.
I designed it in two parts that hold together with one or two nuts on each side for easy disassembly. First time modeling and printing threads, first time using petg. Needless to say, there were many iterations !
It works now, but the nuts can be a little cumbersome. If you want something a little sleeker, electric tape does a fantastic job to hold the housing closed. The threads then become only a sort of knurling to help handling. I regret nothing, it was a cool learning experiment !
