I wanted to create my own spool keychain but decided to make it a bit more challenging to model. That's why I decided to turn my spool into a clicky fidget toy that also functions as a playground for modeling different patterns. Right now, there are 6 different patterns to choose from.

Assembly

To make your spool, you need 3 parts:

  • Top: One model works with every other part.
  • Bottom: Choose the one you want to use. This part will determine whether your spool is just a fidget toy or also a keychain. If you pick the "no click" option, your spool will only function as a decorative piece.
  • Insert: Pick 1 or 2 spring variants depending on how much force you want to use to rotate the spool, and choose a pattern you like.

To assemble the toy, align the bottom hole of the insert with the teeth of the bottom piece and put them together. Then, screw on the top to secure everything in place.

Printing

Every part is designed to be printed without supports.
Due to the weak nature of silk filaments, be aware that the springs inside inserts printed with this type of filament may break easily.
