PDF

Wool holder that stops wool from being tangled/rolling away during knitting or crocheting

Notes:
  • Kebab sticks were used to reduce printing time
  • The base has a hollow centre to allow weight to be added during printing - can print without cavity base if you don't require this
  • Base has indents for rubber feet - hot glue could be used instead or they can be ommited entirely
  • There will be a slight wobble from bearing slop
  • interchangeable spindle allows for quicker adjustment of height/change of shape* and reduces the time of printing for replacement parts

*if you design your own spindle

Hardware needed:
  • 608 Bearing
  • ~19mm X 3mm Screw (I used a random wood screw i had lying around)
  • 6x ~3mm kebab sticks
Assembly:
  • Press bearing into base ensuring it is flush
  • push locating pin up through bearing
  • place spacer over locating pin
  • screw platter in
  • assemble spindle base and top with 6 cut to length kebab sticks
Printing/assembly reccomendations:
  • Base with cavity can be tricky to print due to very large overhangs so the alternate base may be more suitable
  • Pause print at 12mm (layer 60 @0.2mmLH) to add weight to the inside of base - cavity has a depth of 9mm
  • Print the spindle base upside down as there is an internal overhang - this may not be required as there is a sizeable gap between it and the platter
  • It can help to bend the kebab sticks into place after locating the middle stick in both spindle top and base
  • Glue the kebab sticks last - it's more fiddly but you can ensure alignment by screwing into the platter then adjusting the top to find centre
