I bought a standing desk but kept sitting, so I invented a device that BEEPS if I sit too long. (Device + Soft + 3D)

How It Works: A User’s Tale

  • You're sitting... comfortably.
  • You're still sitting... and getting way too cozy.
  • You hear a soft "beep beep"... just a gentle nudge.
  • You ignore it... it’s just a beep, right?
  • 40 seconds later... BEEP BEEP BEEP! Every 3 seconds! 🔊
  • You surrender... reluctantly raise your desk, stand up, and bask in the sweet sound of silence.
  • 1 minute later... you’re tired already? Seriously?
  • You sit back down... but wait…
  • BEEP BEEP BEEP... Time to stand up again, buddy! 14 more minutes, you can do it! 💪

🛠 Hardware

Keeping it simple and straightforward, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Raspberry Pi Zero (with Raspbian and charging cable)
  • HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor: Measures the distance from desk to floor.
     - Important: Modify it with resistors to work with 3.3V. https://www.instructables.com/Modify-Ultrasonic-Sensors-for-3-Volts-Logic-prepar
  • Active Buzzer: The source of your new productivity (and maybe a bit of frustration).
    • Buy one with PCB so you can easily mount into the case, the dimension of pcb: 28.5mm x 13mm (around, I've measured it myself)
  • Resistors: 1x 2.7k or 2.2k and 1x 4.7k

💻 Software

The software is open-source, and all installation information is available here: https://github.com/marosiak/StandingDeskNotifier
