This is an enhanced version of my Hypnotic Spin Wheel.

Main differences:

  • Tail Fin
  • Bearings for better performance and durability
  • Rotor blades are no longer glued and can be changed easily - so why not switch colors from time to time …

What you need:

  • Super glue
  • M3 x 10mm stainless round head screws (2x)
  • Common stainless roller skate bearings 608-ZZ (22x7x8mm) like this one (2x)

Print settings:

  • PETG
  • 0.4mm nozzle
  • 0.2mm layers
  • Infill pattern: Gyroid (15%)
  • Vertical shell perimeters: 3
  • Minimum shell thickness: 1.2 mm (top and bottom)
  • Support needed only for the fin tail parts

Assembling:

  1. Slide the large wing blades (3) into the wing profiles (1). Don't glue.
  2. Press the small wing blades (2) into the wing profiles (1). Don't glue.
  3. Press the bearings (5) gently into the fuselage (8) and the rotor hub (4) until they reach the stop. A vice may come in handy …
  4. Glue the eight assembled wing profiles from step 1 and step 2 to the rotor hub (4).
  5. Glue the rotor hub bearing shaft (6) to the fuselage (8).
  6. Glue both parts (10) of the tail fin to the fuselage (8).
  7. Insert the fuselage bearing shaft (7) into the mounted fuselage bearing. Secure the vertical shaft with a M3 screw (9). Screw it all the way into the shaft but do not tighten the screw! The vertical shaft should now sit firmly in the fuselage bearing.
  8. Mount the fuselage bearing cover (11). Don't glue.
  9. Insert the fuselage with the rotor hub bearing shaft (6) into the mounted rotor hub bearing. Secure the shaft with a M3 screw. Screw it all the way into the shaft but do not tighten the screw! The horizontal shaft should now sit firmly in the rotor hub bearing.
  10. Mount the rotor hub bearing cover (12). Don't glue.
  11. done.

Transparent PETG gives nice effects in sunlight. You can also experiment with imitation gold leaf, see below ...
