Parametric filament spool holder designed for stability with multiple mounting options.

The design was motivated by the basic simplicity and efficiency of the roller configuration while trying to create a stable mechanism for any spool size and mounting position.

Key Features

  • Fully parametric allowing complete control of all options from minimal lightweight to reinforced designs supporting virtually any spool size
  • Ring structure provides better stability with minimal filament and if using ABS, suffers less print warping compared to straight edges
  • Optional retainers prevent spool dislodging when weight reduced and allow mounting at any angle
  • Inner flanges on bearing holders negate the need for washers on the base
  • All parts can be printed apart from bearings
  • Spools can be changed quickly without tools

Instructions

Alter the required values using the Customizer in OpenSCAD. The minimal configuration without retainers requires 4 bolts and nuts and 4 bearings. All parts are printable except the bearings.
If using the optional retainers, threaded rod can also be added between the retainers with 2 bearings to secure the spool at any angle. I have included printable substitutes for metal 8mm nuts, bolts and threaded rod that print well. See NUT JOB | Nut, Bolt, Washer and Threaded Rod Factory  for more info. https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/94761-nut-job-nut-bolt-washer-and-threaded-rod-factory

I recommend using at least 40% fill for the base and 100% fill for the nuts, bolts and threaded rod.
