Parts required:

Choose the wall mount version or the rebar-cap version.

The wall mount version requires:

  • a m4x45 screw
  • a m4 lock nut
  • wood screws to mount to a garden post
  • 2x 5mm OD .5mm wall x 10mm length stainless tube

The rebar-cap version requires:

  • a length of ½" rebar (a ½" dowel or garden stake might also work)
  • a m4x55 screw
  • a m4 lock nut
  • a m3x12 screw
  • a m3 hex nut
  • 2x 5mm OD .5mm wall x 10mm length stainless tube

The first version did not use metal hardware, but I found that the holes would widen over time and make the blades spin much more erratically, so I added stainless hardware. This stainless tubing from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B099QNP616 is used as a bushing. Cut it down to length with a tubing cutter and use a file to clean any burrs.

Printing the spinning blades:

The blades are a little tricky to print with the narrow perimeters I'm using to keep the blades light. I print with PETG for increased UV resistance over PLA. ASA would also be a good choice. My PETG settings are based on the Prusaslicer .2mm Quality preset with the following changes:

  • 1 Perimeter
  • Disable skirt (to fit mk3/4 build plate)
  • Classic perimeter generator (Arachne causes weak joints)
  • 270C
  • 60% Fan
  • I also recommend an enclosure to prevent drafts
  • The second blade is a mirror duplicate of the first (mirrored in the slicer)
  • (no supports needed)

Printing the mounting hardware:

The mounting hardware prints with normal PETG/Quality settings.
