The GPU normally receives fresh air from the bottom of the case, but the CPU often recycles used GPU air, which can cause it to overheat by up to 10 extra degrees Celsius. To solve this problem, I designed this CPU fan shroud that will deflect the upward-flowing GPU air towards the back of the case, allowing only fresh air to enter the CPU cooler.
I was not the first to think about this, in fact I was inspired by the following video:
I made sure to leave the motherboard side of the shroud flush with the edge of the cooler, to keep it from clipping RAM, as well as the motherboard, I/O and USB connectors, and I added a cutaway in the corner to allow for compatibility with cases such as the NZXT H6 FLOW, which uses angled fans.
Unfortunately, I do not have a proper 3-fan GPU to use for the testing of this shroud, so I will need community feedback on this. Please inform me if the shroud is too short, wide, low, stuff like that, I will be sure to fix it.
