The Etekcity EK6015 scale works fine for weighing spools, but it's small and you can't see the display with a spool laying on its side. This model holds the spool upright.
Instructions:
- Place the caddy on the scale and tare it. You should be seeing a weight of 0 g.
- Place the filament spool in the caddy.
- Subtract the weight of the spool to get the weight of filament remaining.
Printing:
This is intended for printing on a 180x180 bed, so it prints sideways. Supports are required to hold up the top side.
Saving Filament:
- Use as little infill as you can get away with. I used 5%.
- You could cut off the bottom few centimeters. It won't locate on the scale by itself, but that's not a required feature.
- Printing with the part that sits on the scale facing up could eliminate the need for supports, if your printer is large enough.
Fits spools up to 76 mm wide, which fits 1 kg Polymaker (cardboard), Bambu (grey plastic), Voxel PLA (black plastic), Proto Pasta (cardboard) spools, among others.
