UPDATE: 2020-08-18 I uploaded revised models. After printing and receiving feedback from others, I modified the designs to make the models thicker. The models should now be sturdier, making it easier to trim away supports and play with the models without ankles and halberd hafts snapping.

I remixed a pile of files from Thingiverse, mostly from EvilFrog (whose stuff is great!), in order to make a full regiment of Empire halberdier strips for the game Warmaster. These are 10mm scale, and would work for late medieval / renaissance troops as well, though nobody fought with a halberd and a shield historically, as a halberd takes two hands to wield. I also included a 40x20x2mm unit base. I highly recommend printing these strips in resin, with supports, at 0.025mm layer height. That's what I plan to do.

How I Designed This

The main operations I carried out were the following:

  • Used the Blender Decimate modifier to reduce the polygon count.
  • Scaled the models to approximately 35.7% or their original size, with some hand adjustment, where needed (to convert from 28mm to 10mm scale).
  • Cut away bases using the Blender Boolean operation.
  • Added the miniatures to strips, positioning them to look pleasing, again using the Blender Boolean operation to combine the meshes.
  • I then went into Edit Mode and used the Mesh >> Clean Up >> Merge By Distance operation to remove overlapping geometry.
  • I exported the strips to .STL format.
  • I opened the files in MS 3D Builder to use the auto-cleanup function to resolve any errors with the files.
