This design is a replacement handle for a “Comp” brand SCUBA dive knife. The existing handle broke after many years of service, so I made this replacement.
The knife was held in the original handle with a screw-on end nut. The portion of the blade that is inside of the handle also has a 5mm hole that can be used to secure the blade in the handle as an alternate attachment method. I've designed 2 versions of this model to allow use with either method of attachment.
The blade-style used in this Comp knife appears to be a rather common design that I've seen in other brands of dive knife. It is therefore possible that this handle may work for those other knives as well. The entire metal blade including the portion that goes inside the handle is 9 inches long. The portion of the blade that extends beyond the handle is 4.5 inches.
The M5 nut and bolt used to attach the handle should be 18mm long, and is recommended to be 316 gauge stainless steel for its improved resistance to corrosion by salt water. If only using the knife in fresh water, a black oxide coated stainless steel screw will likely be sufficient.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
