The 2nd Generation Chevy Volt (model years 2016-2019) has an "Accessory Power Module", which is a DC-DC converter that converts the high voltage traction battery 260-420V down to 11-15.5V at up to 2.2kW when the vehicle is powered on. Adding a 2kW inverter to the 12V AGM battery in the trunk can provide continuous power while the vehicle is powered on.

When in Park (P) the vehicle will automatically power off after 1 hour. To keep the vehicle powered on, there are two solutions:

  • Keep the vehicle in Park (P) and place the Shifter Cap on the shifter. This will press and hold the release button on the shifter, preventing the vehicle from automatically powering off.
  • Alternatively place the vehicle in Neutral (N), engage the parking break, and chock the wheels. This will also prevent the vehicle from automatically powering off, however there is risk from accidentally knocking the vehicle into Reverse (R) while in this state.

The STL file is already oriented for printing. Supports are not required. Print using either PETG, ABS, Nylon, or Polycarbonate. PLA will soften in a hot car and could release the button.
