A bumper for a pet tag. Intended to reduce the metal-on-metal clinking sound of multiple pet tags. Recommended material: TPU/Flexibles

Instructions for single material printers:

  1. Buy a roll of soft TPU (you know you've always wanted to) and (optionally) another material that doesn't adhere well to TPU (e.g., PETG)
  2. (Recommended) Print the desired dog tag model in a non-flexible material (e.g., PETG)
  3. Slice the included bumper file
    • Slice the included 3MF bumper file in PrusaSlicer -or-
    • Slice the STL yourself and insert a pause in the gcode at the beginning of the overhang layer
  4. Print the bumper
    • When the printer pauses, insert your printed dog tag (above) into the bumper (optionally, use your pet's actual tag)
    • Resume printing
    • (Optional) Upon completion, remove the printed pet tag from the bumper, insert your pet's actual tag

Notes:

  • When the printer resumes with a dog tag in the bumper, the tag may shift during the first overhang layer. You can use a toothpick (or similar) to press down on the tag while the print head is on the opposite side to reduce shifting.
  • Using a printed dog tag mid-print is recommended over a real metal tag to avoid damage to the printer should the tag shift during printing
