Do you want to play Azul while traveling, but find the original box too big? Let me introduce a travel-friendly, custom-made version, packaged in a compact 22 x 17 x 4 cm box.

How to Print

  • Print without supports.
  • All color changes can be done manually, no MMU required.
  • Optimized for 0.2mm layer height unless stated otherwise.
  • Optimized for 0.4mm nozzle unless stated otherwise.

Container

  • Print 1.
  • No special settings required.

Board with Shops

  • Print 1.
  • Change colors at the following layers:
    • Layer 9 (1.8mm)
    • Layer 11 (2.2mm)

Player Boards

  • Print 4 (one for each player)
  • Change colors at the following layers:
    • Layer 3 (0.6mm)
    • (Optional) Layer 5 (1.0mm) - see photos to compare the variant with and without this layer change.
    • Layer 11 (2.2mm)

Score Counters

  • Print 4 (one for each player).

Board Inserts

  • Print 5 of each color for every board (20 of each color → 100 total)
  • Use the same colors as you will for the stones.

Stones

You can choose between a single-color or multi-color variant. For the multi-color variant, print the stone of your choice and an inner model with different colors.

(Optional): You can use the multi-color versions and change colors manually. It only requires 4 filament swaps.

(Optional): You can print a single-color version with color changes at the layers below and still achieve a multi-color print feel.

  • For 1st player stone:
    • Layer 10 (1.1mm)
    • Layer 12 (1.3mm)
    • Layer 48 (4.9mm)
    • Layer 50 (5.1mm)
  • For other stones:
    • Layer 5 (0.6mm)
    • Layer 7 (0.8mm)
    • Layer 53 (5.4mm)
    • Layer 55 (5.6mm)

Print one stone to indicate the 1st player. If you’re printing the multi-color variant, note that the 1st player stone has a different inner model than the other stones.

Choose 5 designs (there are 5 ornaments and 1 without decoration) and print 20 pieces of each design you’ve chosen, with each design in a different color. (You can choose to use the plain design multiple times.)

Make sure you have good bed adhesion, as some of the stones are a bit tricky to print (particularly the lotus and wheel designs, which were challenging for my Prusa MK3S).

Print settings:

  • Print with 0.1 layer height
  • Use brim
  • (Optional) use 0.25 nozzle for more detail.

Assembly

Glue the inserts inside the player boards as shown in the photos. Place all stones (except the 1st player stone) into a bag, and you’re ready to play.

When you’re done, store the stones and bag inside the container. Cover them with the player boards, then place the 1st player stone and score counters in their respective pits. Close the container with the upside-down board with shops.

Pro Tip

Place all used stones inside the container, cover them with one of the boards, and pour them into the bag through the hole in the container.
