I've noticed the vikings were playing a board game I've never seen or heard of before called Hnefatafl. I was intrigued and decided to create it because the game is pretty rare and expensive to buy unless you're satisfied with a square of cloth and generic pieces.
This game is actually really fun to play. It's also much less complicated than chess regarding rules while still requiring a good sense of strategy to win. It's a perfect game for people that don't like the complexity of chess while accepting the fact that checkers is too boring.
Before you start printing: All pieces have a hole in the bottom to fit 5x2mm magnets. Even though you don't have to insert these magnets, I'd advise to go for an other Hnefatafl creation if you don't want to use magnets. But if you do, this design will definitely be worth your time. The game can be played indoor as well as outdoor no matter what weather condition. You'll need a total of 158 magnets in that case :'-)
How to play:
Assembly:
King - 1x, in the color of the defender pieces
Pieces - 36x in total. 24 in a color for the attacker and 12 in the color of the defender
Tiles - 121x in total. 5 in a distinct color to specify the refuge spaces, 24 in a color to specify the starting position of attackers, 12 in color to specify the staring position of defenders and a different color for the remaining neutral tiles.
You should be able to put the tiles in the board without any difficulty. All components can be printed using any layer height, although I'd recommend a max. layer height of 0.2mm.
The author marked this model as their own original creation.
