Introduction:

Meet the MFS (Manual Filament System) \u2013 an overhaul that enhances the versatility and security of your 3D printing setup. This remix replaces the traditional two-bearings approach with rollers connecting the bearings. This allows smaller spools to fit securely, eliminating the risk of them falling off the printer.

Key Features:

Versatile Rollers:

Accommodate all spools, up to 75mm in width without needing adjustment.

Filament Sensor Attachment:

Easily clips to the center of the spool

!Cable needs to be lenghtened so that the outer most spools can be reached!

(the middle three work unlenghtend)

Hardware Needed:

Rods ca. 520mm long and 25mm in diameter (I used a expandable shower curtain rod wich I cut to length, they are really cheap)
M3 screw and sleeve from the original assembly (m3x8mm)
11 M5x12mm bolts (i used round heads but designed it for normal ones)
10 M5 nuts.
20 625ZZ ball bearings (same as the original creator used)
4 M3 x 10 bolts
4 heat-set inserts m3x4 to attach the MFS to the printer
1 m5 drop in t-nut

Part orientation:

The Holes are Teardrop shaped to ensure they are circulare when printing them sideways, always make shure those are facing upwards.

Print the Filament Roller parts facing the hexcutouts to the bottom, these can be printed without supports.

Make shure the rollers are printed standing and the seam (the white line) is in one of the 4 divits.

Assembly instructions:

Main assembly:

Add the Heated inserts to the two Side Pieces

There are threaded holes on the top of the printer wich fit m3 screws, screw the first side piece in like in the picture below

Get your two rods and fit them in both side pieces
Screw down the second side piece

The Main assembly is now finshed and should be nice and sturdy (depending on the tollerance between your rods and the side pieces)

Filament Roller Assembly:

Screw the 20 bearings into the Filament rollers
Press the roller onto the bearing

Add the second half on top

Clip the entirte assembly onto the two rods

Filament Sensor assembly:

Press the aluminum Sleeve into the part

Screw the clip onto the sensor

Add the t-nut and the m5 screw to secure the bottom gude to the 2020 extrusion:

Clip the top guide onto the back Rod

feed the cable throught the loobs and under the MFS and connect the sensor

Optional: Lenghten the filament sensor cable so that it can be clipped onto all 5 spots
