I really liked CHAOSDRUCKER’s CC-RS Rewinder System, a remix of Vincent Groenhuis’ Universal Rewind Spool Holder (MM), since you can change the tension on the spring by rotating the dial. I included my modified filler adapter to use with my Universal Rewind Spool Dry Box, Drybox mounted to Prusa XL / 3030 Frame Using Filler Brace. I uploaded a 2KG version of the dry box to accommodate the longer length. The dry box I originally made for 2KG rolls that did not use the universal rewind system was a bit short for the rewind mechanism.
I wanted to see if i could figure out a way to make the universal rewinder system work for 2KG spools. I could not find long enough M8 bolts and thought to try M8 threaded rods with lock nuts in its place. I used some M8x200mm threaded rods that I did not use for a previous project. I found out these were a bit too long and just added an additional M8 nut to take up the space. I was able to hide the excess within the filler adapter. M8x190mm would be a better length then what I used. Be sure to pre-thread the lock nuts on to the threaded rod before assembly. If you do not, it will give you difficulty in tightening the top locknut as the bottom lock nut will shift. I wrapped a rag around the threaded rod to protect the rod and used vise grip pliers to hold the threaded rod as I tightened the locknut on it. Chaosdrucker has a good illustrations to show you how to assemble the rewinder.
For the actual file, I duplicated the existing threaded part. Then aligned the threads to extend it just long enough for my needs. I left the 2 parts in pieces and did not merge them. When I merged the file in 3D builder there was distortion in the file. It prints perfectly fine when uploaded as a file with multiple parts in Prusa Slicer. I have uploaded a Prusa Slicer 3mf file for print settings of what I used.
I was worried if the spring would work with a spool twice its weight. I tested it with a full 2k spool and it seems to print fine. Only time will tell in the long run if the spring will wear out faster. Luckily, the springs are printable and replaceable.
To use this, you will need to download 2x Nuts, 1x Spring, 1x Clutch, 1x Adjustment Cover from CHAOSDRUCKER’s CC-RS Rewinder System
