Ever since I saw the jedi holocron by @UnimatrixRed https://www.printables.com/model/267054-jedi-holocron-with-gears-star-wars I wanted a sith counterpart to go with it on the shelf. A few months of working on and off to get gearing to work later I ended up going with a ball detent design instead. No extra hardware is actually needed to make this model, you can just leave the corners free spinning. With it they will lock into either the opened or closed position.

Required hardware for detents:

2-3 springs from clicky pens

6 3/16" ball bearings (mine came from a broken drawer slide)

Prep for assembly by cutting 4 segments of spring about 7 mm long. To assemble the ball detents, attach the assembly clip to a post over one end of the through hole, insert a ball bearing and spring, then press another ball bearing in and rotate the clip around to hold both bearings in place. Push the post into the core from the inside, and remove the clip. Everything else just needs a dab of superglue.

I printed mine in alpha technologies fil@ment bronze gold PLA and red PETG.
