Overview

These desiccant holders for the AMS unit have threaded caps, so that they can be handled without worrying about spills.

Story

I started off with the @NeedItMakeIt Vase Mode Desiccant Holders.  I loved the concept, but had a few ‘accidents’ leaving me to vacuum up a lot of desiccant out of the AMS, off the floor, etc.  While there are a lot of various AMS desiccant holders out there, I didn't feel most of them solved the problem of ‘being a klutz’.  I found a capped design at Makerworld, but did not like the look.  So, after many iterations and test prints, I introduce yet another AMS desiccant holder.  Its pretty robust, allows a lot of airflow, and holds a lot of desiccant.

The design takes advantage of 3D printing's natural ability to bridge, to make lots of small slots that desiccant beads cannot escape from.

Printing

In general, the parts are all designed to be printed at 0.2mm layer heights, with a 0.4mm nozzle, and turn on Arachne wall generation.  In general for these prints, I recommend random seam position.  No supports are required.

The threads however are best printed at 0.1mm layer heights.  I have uploaded pre-setup 3mf files from Orcaslicer containing the already setup layer heights.  But each part is documented in sections below if you need to setup your own profiles.

NOTE:  These prints are torture on your 3D printer.  They are pretty much 100% small islands, and bridges.  A decent filament profile is required.  (All the example images are shown in Voxel PETG+, but printed at a conservative 8mm^3/s.)

Funnel

The funnel imports sitting on the wide brim to attach to the bed, which is correct.  Using a height range modifier, setup 0.1mm layer heights between 65-70mm in height.

AMS Rear Inserts

The AMS Rear Inserts need to be oriented so that the threads touch the build plate.  (See example print photo if you are not sure what I mean.)  Using a height range modifier, setup 0.1mm layer heights between 0-5mm in height.

Note, the AMS rear ‘lids’ do not fit with the AMS rear insert.  But no worries, because the desiccant beads can't spill until you take the threaded cap off!

The “Bottles”

The bottles (both the wide variant, and the two narrow variants) need to have a height modifier set for 0.1mm layer heights between 93 and 98mm in height.

Caps

With the caps I am lazy, and just set a part override to 0.1mm layer heights.  But if you really wanted to use the height modifier instead, 2-7mm in height is what you want.

Remixing

The Fusion files are an utter disaster, so I am providing at least step files to allow further modifications.

Want to design your own accessories?  The bottles have a standard M20 external thread, just make sure on the inside of your accessory don't exceed 14.5mm diameter for anything that sticks into the neck of the bottles.
