This cable clip was made specifically for use with a #8 (approx. M4) lath screw. A lath screw is a wood screw with a “washer head” (see photos for an example). The large screw head distributes the pressure exerted on the plastic clip, and the use of a screw instead of a nail makes it easier to install in overhead locations.
Another design feature is that the clip has a slight “bend” (see photos for clip profile) to provide some pre-load on the clip to help it clamp the cable firmly.
The clips are designed to hold the lath screw loosely so that the clip and screw can be readily held on the end of a screw driver. This makes it easier to position the cable with one hand while driving in the screw and fastening the clip with the other hand.
