I made this design inspired by the traditional hand fans made of wood and paper (or fabric):

The front and back guards are heavier, protecting the blades when the fan is closed, but also adding some weight so that it can be swiftly opened with one hand.

By keeping some distance between the blades, these can be printed in more than one color and with different patterns, even if you don't have a multi-color printer.

Fan size: 14,5 cm (length of the blade).

Printing advice
  • All the parts can be printed without support. For best results make sure you enable the “Variable Layer Height” in your slicer.
  • The fan from the cover picture was printed with two colors by adding a “Color Change” step.
  • For a left-hand version, mirror the blades and the back cover before printing.
  • For better results, make sure the printing seams are not on the sliding surface of the pin (see picture below). You can use the “Seam Painting” function to block/enforce the seam location.

Assembly instructions (see picture)
  1. Align all the blades, including the front and back covers.
  2. Insert the hinge rod
  3. Add the hinge caps

Enjoy! 🪭

Note: The fan will unfold more smoothly as you open and close it a few times.

UPDATE 17/09/2024: Uploaded V2 of the Hinge Rod and Cap for a stronger snap-fit connection. The new design is compatible with the original blades and covers.
