Universal Fishing Rod Transport Holder

I set out to design a fishing rod transport holder, which fits a range of rods - long, short, thick, and thin. In the picture of the rods above, I show the 3 different holders on 3 different rods: A small 5 foot ultra light rod, a 10 foot spinning rod and a 12'6" surfcasting rod.

I ended up making 3 similar, but a little different, rod holders, to make it easier to source the extra parts needed. 

The function of the rod holder is to keep the rod sections fixed, so they are not moving in relation to each other and keeping the sections apart. Each rod holder has a V-shaped indent, where the rod is placed. The rod is fixed by a length of E-shaped windows sealing tape and by either velcro strips (velcro version) or elastic bands (elastic version).

The first picture show the rod holders in use. 

The second picture show the 3 different versions - the green is the “wide velcro” version, the grey is the “narrow velcro” version, and the white is the “elastic” version.

The third picture show the parts needed for each version (except the window sealing tape).

Picture four show the assembled “wide velcro” version. Start by inserting the 14-16 mm. velcro strip, then measure a length of window sealing tape - it has to go all around and one of the long sides should overlap. Finally, add the elastic which fixes the windows sealing tape in place.

Picture five is the assembled “narrow velcro” version. Assemble as above, but use 10 mm. velcro cut to length (15 cm. is fine for most rods, 20-25 cm. for very thick rods). Green

Picture six is the elastic version (no velcro). Each holder uses 2 elastics - one for fixing the rod, and one for fixing the window sealing strip. Note that the window sealing tape is mounted first, then put the rod fixing elastic over the knob and finally the elastic that fixes the window sealing tape. This will trap the rod fixing elastic and prevent it from falling off, when the rod holder is not in use.
