Introduction
Back in the day, fly fishermen would stash their favorite flies on their hat. But flies are changing, and the rise of catch and release fishing has popularized barbless flies. Unfortunately, barbless flies fall right out of your hat (and just about everything else too). The modern angler needs a new place to tuck their lucky fly pattern. This gadget is the answerer. It can grip 12 flies of sizes #14 - #10, with additional magnetic storage along the center.
There's two ways to attach the fly holder, it can be clamped magnetically using the magnetic bar, or it can be clipped in. You can swap between the two mounting options.
Printing
Use TPU 95A for the Magnetic Bar and Fly Holder. Use PETG for the Clip.
(optional) insert 10 magnets, size 6x3 mm. The magnets are optional since the clip mount does not require magnets. If you do use magnets, they are inserted during printing. The print will pause when it's time to insert the magnets. I recommend alternating polarity like in the diagram below.
Use
Push hooks in bend-first. You can push hooks all the way to the back of the slit so that they ‘pop’ in. Once a fly has popped in, it is secure, even if it has some play. To remove a fly, I recommend lifting the eye of the hook to lever the fly out. Hooks are sharp, be careful!
The Clip is the most secure way to mount the fly holder. The clip has a hidden hook that keeps it from sliding off a strap. When removing the clip from a strap you'll need guide the fabric over the hook. The hook is circled in the diagram below.
