Description

PDF

Smoothly operating and very sturdy sliding barrel bolt lock thanks to the great original design by Jerry Lee
With added “locked open” position and full FDM print optimized handle with threads, removing the need for glue.

Update: per user request, a two screw version of the receiver plate and a four screw version of the base housing are added to the STL files. This makes it possible to mount the lock with only 6 screws.

Six sizes have been tested and are supplied as 3mf project files

Picture to size reference:
The GIF and title picture shows the 7cm version in white.
The comparison picture shows 5 (silver/white), 6 (black) and 7cm (white) version.
The last pictures with the lock mounted facing down show the large 10cm version (black)

Print advise:

  • Use the supplied 3mf project files for tested orientation of all parts, correct scaling proportions and sane supports.
You will need to clean up the barrel bolt from supports using either a de-burr tool, sand paper or a knife.

  • When choosing the raw stl files, print the bolt laying flat and the base parts upright. This helps structural integrity a lot by distributing the forces along the layer lines, not the stacked layers.

Where is the four screw receiver small plate?
Only the actually changed remix files are posted in the STL folder. For the unchanged Small Plate receiver where the bolt locks into, please visit the original model and download it from there in case you need it. Its name is gatelockboltplatesmall.stl.
A remixed version with only two screws is available in the STL folder.

  • Scaling lower than 50mm (55.55%) might work but is untested. The handle screw tolerances might become too small. Try to print the handle even smaller, like 99-98% of your scale.
Or better download the original bolt and handle from Jerry Lees model and scale them accordingly. Those are much easier to print in small scale but need to be glued.

Assembly

  • You will need 10 screws to mount the bases using all screw holes.
For the 5 and 6cm version, i used 2.5 by 12mm self cutting screws. The 7 to 9 cm versions can hold 3-3.5mm wide screws. For the 10cm version i was able to use 4mm thick screws.
  • Keep the parts in locking position while mounting the screws to ensure proper fit.

But chances are high that you can find inspiration from my specialized works.

  • Shortened the main part to save filament
  • Removed the necessity to use glue by adding threading to the handle and bolt.
  • Moved the handle position to fit the new base length
  • Added and moved screw holes for symmetry
