For those that don't know, the squat position, is the natural way to poop, it allows for a smooth exit. Having your thighs horizontal causes you to strain more. I didn't want to pay full price for a squatty potty and wait for delivery. So I thought it would be fun to design one. There are several other 3D Printed designs, but often they use excessive amounts of filament.

I would recommend using 8mm wooden dowels or steel tubes. You can see in the pictures, mine has been built using 3mm bamboo skewers. You can find the joining pieces here.

The bamboo skewers are great for prototyping. My design allows for easy customisation of height and width. Changing the length of the rods will adjust the height of the stool, and the width.

The squatty potty comes in 7" and 10" height (Use the 10" if you're tall)

My configuration is 7"

  • 14x Vertical rods 17cm
  • 4x Horizontal rods 25cm

Print the top and bottom pieces + mirror for the opposite foot. If you need extra support you can print a middle section, You can choose a thin piece with no side supports, or the full size which allows extra horizontal rods. I would position the seam at the rear, or perhaps sharpest corner.

The bamboo skewer version, is sturdy enough, but not as solid as I would like. I may rebuild mine with wooden dowels. However steel might be more hygienic/easier to clean. Unless you treat the wood.

If you need to tweak the model, it was designed in onShape

PSA: Pregnant women often suffer from constipation. I hope this model helps some expecting mothers out there.
