Hello! It has been a while since I last modeled a small keycap!

Here’s a gear keycap that can spin! So, if you ever feel stressed, you have a sort of fidget toy right on your keyboard!

Idea Behind This Model

I wanted to try printing a simple mechanism in one piece (something that rotates around an axis) using my SLA printer.

So, I modeled something basic, then printed it (making sure to place the supports in the right spots to avoid highlands), and it worked!

However, if your SLA printer is a bit old, or if you want to try with an FDM printer (with a 0.1mm nozzle), I have provided a file with the keycap parts separated.

What type of switches is this keycap for?

There are different keycaps for different switches.

  • MX Stem:
    • 1.59 x 1.59 x 4.7mm (ALL_cog_keycap_supported_2.stl and cog_key_body_2.stl)
  • Smaller dimensions:
    • 1.33 x 1.33 x 4.5mm (ALL_cog_keycap_supported_1.stl and cog_key_body_1.stl)

And for which key?

It’s not modeled for a specific key, but it is preferable to use it on the escape key, though you are free to choose.

Contents

  • Version ALL 1.33 x 1.33 x 4.5mm (ALL_cog_keycap_supported_1.stl)
  • Version ALL 1.59 x 1.59 x 4.7mm (ALL_cog_keycap_supported_2.stl)

  • Gear part (cog.stl)
  • Pin part for the gear (cog_pin.stl)
  • Body part 1.33 x 1.33 x 4.5mm (cog_key_body_1.stl)
  • Body part 1.59 x 1.59 x 4.7mm (cog_key_body_2.stl)

Dimensions

  • 18 x 18 x 14.5mm

Any problem?

If any of the files don’t suit you, feel free to contact me.

The images are renderings; when you print the model with your printer, the keycap will be colorless. You will need to paint it to achieve a more realistic look.
