The Robot Overlords of 3D Gloop! are looking for a few new cranium protection devices for all of the meat mechas planning to battle J.E.Ph.F. at upcoming shows in 2024!
Objective:
Design a unique, ideally original, 3D-printed "skin" for a safety helmet to be used in the 3D Gloop! Robot Tug Of War. The Robot Overlords are looking for 5 new designs. 4 will be picked by an elite team of community judges and the remaining design will be decided by a community vote! These designs will be printed and assembled for use at upcoming shows!
All winners will receive a $100 Gloop! gift card, some incredible Gloop! merch, a $100 gift card for some high-quality beautiful filament from our amazing friends at Protopasta! Plus all that sweet, sweet street cred when everyone's wearing YOUR helmet to battle J.E.Ph.F.!
This is strictly a design contest but extra consideration will be given to those who print out their designs for submission! There are also extra points (that are totally meaningless BTW) if your design leverages the Gloop! inspired colors from the newest collection at Protopasta! Directives:
- The competition runs for 2 weeks (July 08 - July 21, 2024)
- This is a design competition! You are NOT required to 3D print your design in full scale just ensure that it is possible to do so!
- While printing is not required, submissions with printed models will receive extra consideration during judging. Scale models count!
- If for some reason you really want to build your own complete helmet, this is the safety helmet we are using: https://a.co/d/0fd5f3oq
- Your design must be modeled to encompass the safety helmet provided in this project page.
- STL & OBJ files are provided for the helmet as well as a block that can be used in boolean cut operations making a cavity for the helmet and head.
- You do not have to follow the curvature of the helmet but ensure that your design will fit the rough shape. (A 3-6mm gap around the surface of the safety helmet is ideal.)
- Your design MUST leverage assembly requiring the use of Gloop!
- Gloop! is not required for entry, you are totally okay to use any inferior adhesives for the process of submission. π
- The Robot Overlords are extending a 20% discount on Gloop! if you wanted to get some for your build! Use code HELMET at checkout! https://3dgloop.com/shop (Valid for 120ml bottles only)
- Your design CAN NOT require any kind of post-processing (other than Gloop!'n) such as sanding, filling, and or painting to add color/detail.
- Support/ print aid (brims & the like) removal does not count as post-processing.
- Designs can (and likely should be) split to make printing easier.
- Splits should be done with intention resulting in the seams being well hidden in the final assembly. (Check out the slipt lines in the Master Chief Helmet.)
- Designs that are just cut into pieces which result in visible joints that are not features, changes in color, or accessories of the design will be disqualified. (So no cutting up your helmet into small chunks for the sake of using Gloop!β¦)
- Stickers or decals are allowed, but they should be used sparingly as to accent a design, not make it.
- All printed parts MUST fit within the build volume of a Prusa XL. 360Γ360Γ360 mm
- Submissions should feature at least two (2) colors. We STRONGLY encourage you to incorporate more!
- Your design CAN feature/be of IP properties such as Disney, DC, or Marvel characters so long as YOU are the one to have sculpted/designed the model that is submitted.
- This MUST be "original" work YOU create.
- Remixing an existing model from someone OTHER than yourself is not allowed unless explicit permission is granted to you by the original designer through written email accepting the license of this model. This disclosure must be included in your submission.
- All submissions MUST be family-friendly.
- There CAN NOT be any sharp points such as spikes featured in your design that could injure someone.
- Designs can cover the face but are not required.
- For designs that cover the face, you must still be able to put on and take off the helmet. (Some people have large noses, be mindful of that!)
- There should be sufficient space between the front of the face and the inner wall of your design.
- Please ensure you can still see out of the covered section.
- Everything MUST be 3D printable except for the helmet and any screens/visors in the viewing area.
- Please refer to the image depicting the maximum helmet size when sizing your model. Helmets can be modeled in virtually any orientation so long that they fit within one of the bounding boxes shown.
- To submit an entry, publish a remix to this model. Feel free to email us a link to your entry as well just to be extra sure we see it!
Judging will commence On July 23'rd and the winners should be announced later that same day. All communication will happen directly through Printables.
This page may be updated during the competition to clarify rules/requirements. If you have any questions, please post a comment so that everyone can benefit.
