XRP Silicon/Urethane Molded Tire Upgrade

This is a custom tire for the XRP robot. Instead of using a O ring for the tire it uses a custom urethane pour!

This project has the goal of teaching you the basics of custom urethane pouring while making some really grippy wheels for the XRP kit! I have attached some images of tires I have made for both this project as well as other projects to help you visualize the process.

To do this project you will need the following:

Smooth-on Urethane (30 or 40a hardness)

Mold release

Mica Powder (in desired wheel color)

Instructions:

1: Print both the mold and the tire core parts. I recommend printing the mold in TPU and the core in PLA but any material should function fine.

2: Apply mold release to the inside of the mold, this is going to keep the urethane from sticking to the mold!

3: Insert the tire core into the mold. You need to ensure that the bottom of the tire is on the bottom of the mold!

4: Follow the smooth-On instructions for mixing urethane. If you want the wheel to be colored mix mica powder into the urethane, but do not exceed 2% by weight of mica powder.

5: Pour the urethane mixture into the mold. Don't worry about overpouring, the small trench on the outside of the mold will catch any overpour!

6: Wait 24 hours for the urethane to fully cure. This time may vary some, but I always wait 24 hours.

7: Carefully remove the wheel from the mold.

8: Enjoy your new custom tires!
