PDF

Large collection of MMU purge volume tests to quickly find the right amount of filament needed between color changes on a multi-material printer. For example, in the photos, you can see changing from bronze to white requires extra purging while green to white worked just fine with the standard purge amount.

Each test model uses lightning infill and no top layer. Usually you can see whether the purge was sufficient after printing 2 layers and then you can stop the print but if you want to let it continue on and see the purge volume number, you can let it finish.

Recommended print settings include:

  • Perimeters = 1
  • Top solid layers = 0
  • Bottom solid layers = 2
  • Infill = 15% Lightning
  • Wipe tower purging volume setting should be all set to the exact value that corresponds to the model number (for example the “065” model should use 65 mm³)
  • On the printer, you may want to select your lightest color as your first color so that you can watch for contrast changes as colors bleed on the 2nd layer (as seen with the white and bronze example in the photos above)
