This is tested to ~ 10 000 toolchanges and still changing solidly.
The build guide documentation is in progress. Find me on the ratrig discord server in the toolchanger workgroup if you want to build one and need more information.
To view the BoM in onshape, navigate to a subassembly (e.g. MagSwitch Plate Asm) Then click the Bill of materials button at the botom (or the BoM flyout tab on the right if logged in).
Notes for an intrepid maker:
THE SPACE BETWEEN THE MAGNETS WHEN THE TOOL IS LOCKED IS CRITICAL. There must be a gap of about 0.4-0.8mm. If anything bridges the gap then the kinematic coupling will not be properly engaged. A gap larger than 0.8mm may produce too little attraction force. This gap is the “spring” that acts to maintain a force on the kinematic coupling.
depending on the acorn nuts you source this gap can change so you will need to adjust the model slightly or print some 0.2mm thick shims, to adjust the magnet gap to match the exact dimensions of the acorn nuts. Steel balls probably would have worked better, they take up much more space and would have increased the toolhead width by ~15-20mm and I wanted to be able to fit 4 toolheads in a VC3 300mm.
I have not uploaded the .stl files here (only .step files) because you need to open the assemblies and become familiar with how it goes together before starting your build. (And mod some stuff to fit the hardware you have available).
The nozzle blocker is not in cad, I just smashed it up from some random laptop shell I had lying around and some silicon tubes.
Use the magnet loader to push all the magnets into their slots simultaneously after placing glue in the magnet slots. Put a ziplock bag over the magnets once pushed into their slots and clamp onto the bag to ensure you get a nice flat face in front of the magnets.
