Redesigned the excellent hanging holder from Extrutim to fit my limited hanging space. This holder is only 109mm wide. Maximum spool width is 80mm. It prints without any supports, PTFE tube holder is integrated.

Bill of materials needed

  • 12x threaded insert M4 short
  • 12x countersunk screw M4x10
  • 6x countersunk screw for mounting (I use 4mm Spax)

Printing

All parts print without support. For the PTFE tube holder part, there are numbered version available as two-component print. If you want a number on the holder, use the front part with the number assigned. If you want the number in a different color, open the front part and the part “…number_x” as a multi material part. If you do not want any numbers, just use the part “…no_number”.

Assembly & installation

  • Insert 12x M4 threaded inserts into round holes (without countersink) of the top part, the back part and the front arms.
  • Before you attach anything to the top part, use the top part to mark you drill holes if you need them.
  • Leave some space between the holders (I recommend about 5mm). If they are too close, their axes will touch.
  • Assemble the side parts, back part and the two front arms using M4x10 countersunk screws, but not yet fix the PTFE holder part. First assemble the side parts, but do not tighten the screws, so you can insert the back part, which has four little tips that go into the side parts. You have the correct orientation of the back part if the upper surface is parallel the the top part surface.
  • Screw the assembled parts under a surface.
  • Attach the PTFE holder part with two M4x10 screws.
  • Push the PTFE tube into the holder. There is a small window on the top which should be completely covered by the tube. This way you can make sure it is completely inserted.
  • Put in the filament roll with the axis.
