PDF

A Holiday remix of the sturdy infinity cube. These cubes are engraved with "Merry Xmas!" or "HO HO HO" for some festive cheer.

Makes a great stocking stuffer!

Coloring Options

I've used three different coloring options for these cubes:

Engraved

"sturdy-infinity-cube-hohoho.stl" and "sturdy-infinity-cube-merry-xmas.stl" have the text engraved deep enough to be readable as is.

Painted

Print "sturdy-infinity-cube-hohoho.stl" or"sturdy-infinity-cube-merry-xmas.stl" and use acrylic paint or permanent markers to color the text. See the white "HO HO HO" in the picture.

Multicolor 3D Print

Print the text with a different filament then the rest of the cube. This is a pretty awesome technique that is actually quite easy to do if you are comfortable with changing the filament on your printer.

Instructions:

  • There are two "multicolor-*.stl" files for each cube. Both files contain small squares in each corner to ensure that the slicer positions them in the same spot. Slice each file by itself.
  • Print "*-01_text.stl" first. This only takes a minute. Make sure to keep the printbed and hotend heated after the print is done (to prevent the print coming off the bed and allow changing the filament).
  • Remove everything but the text from the printbed: the corners, skirt, etc.
  • Change the filament.
  • Print "*-02_cube.stl". This print should overlay the text that was already printed.

Print Settings

Printer: Anet AM8

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.2 (including first layer!)

Infill: 20%

Notes:

This model is optimized for 0.2 layer height, including the first(!) layer. I use no brim and no supports, but hairspray to ensure good adhesion.

Slicer Settings:

  • Layer height: 0.2
  • Make sure the first layer is 0.2 (e.g. First layer height = 100%)
  • Infill: 20%
  • Supports: None
  • Brim: None

Post-Printing

The hinges should bent quite easily after printing, with the hinges on the front and back side being more tight due to the orientation. Just work the cube a few times and everything should be quite loose.
