The original case of my Firebat AK2Plus MiniPC choked the SoC to death, so I stripped everything I did not need and started working on a case alternative.
This is the first stage of this project, a minimalistic baseplate for the AK2Plus mainboard that retains compatibility with the VESA mount bracket (which may or may not be included in your purchase).
You will lose functionality of:
- the original case
- status led
- 2.5" SATA mount
You will get:
- 10-15°C better SoC temperatures thus more performance and/or headroom for PL1 & PL2.
- inverted setup (fan facing upwards, RAM downwards) compared with bundled case
There are two versions of this design:
One with a small side wall to mount the wifi/bluetooth antennae and one without.
NOTE: The screw mounting holes are not rotational symmetric (90mm vs 83mm spacing on the two different axis)
Over time I will add more parts to this setup (such as a proper lid). Regard this as a minimum viable option.
