This lens cap holder can be used either with magnets, or with a latch system pushed by a spring.
Its small and very convenient.
Glue an adapter to any lens cap, slide it into the lens holder and push on the latch to take the lens out.
My settings :
4 walls
0.1 layer height
100 per cent infill
Supports only for “Lens cap holder main”
I used slow speeds for better layer adhesion
Tested with PLA, ASA, PETG
All worked great
Printing and assembly:
For the magnet only version, you have to print :
"Lens cap holder magnet version"
"Lens cap mushroom magnet version" (As many as you need)
Additionally, you'll need a rubber band or anything that will work to hold the system on your favorite strap.
Assembly :
For both the mushroom and the body, put a bit of glue in the hole and insert a magnet.
Make sure to push it in the hole so that its flush with the plastic surface, or slightly lower, but not sticking out.
Check magnet polarities beforehand
Glue the mushroom to a lens cap
Mount the lens cap holder to a strap using a rubber band for example
Now all you have to do is slide the mushroom in and out of the holder.
Happy adventuring
For the latch version :
Parts needed :
"Lens cap holder main"
"Latch"
"Down plate"
Additionally, you'll need a pen spring to push the latch as well as a rubber band.
Assembly :
Sand or file the surface of the latch and it's notch in the lens cap holder to ensure a smooth motion of the mechanism.
Assemble the latch and the spring in the main part, after cutting the spring to the length you want, to obtain the desired tension.
If the tension is too high, the cap will be absurdly hard to insert in the holder.
If the tension is too light, you won't get the satisfying "click" sound of the mechanism.
Adjust to your liking
Snap the down plate in position
You can choose to glue it in place to ensure a permanent assembly, or to leave it pressure fitted to allow for spring tension adjustment after it's closed.
The rubber band will keep the plate stuck against the strap anyway.
Do as you wish.
Mount the holder to your favorite strap and have fun.
About the mushrooms :
They can be printed with the head up or down, both work.
But the best way is to print them head down on the build plate, so that the V shape is printed as a pyramid not as an overhang.
I've gotten the best results by printing "Lens cap mushroom without base" in ASA, that i fused with acetone to a lens cap, also printed in ASA.
But printing the mushrooms with a base worked without problems too.

Grant Parker studio for the amazing "Single press lens cap" model, the only good lens cap model I found after trying so many of them. I remixed it by adding holes for the fingers when I printed it for myself.

Please post your makes and remix the crap out of my humble STLs.
